February Week 2: INTEGRITY in Kids Jiu-Jitsu

Gracie Humaitá Jiu-Jitsu – Bolton

"It’s not what we digest that makes us strong; not what we gain but what we save that makes us rich; not what we read but what we remember that makes us learned; and not what we profess but what we practice that gives us integrity." – Francis Bacon, Sr

At Gracie Humaitá Jiu-Jitsu Bolton, we teach that integrity is a key principle in kids’ Jiu-Jitsu in Bolton. A strong martial artist isn’t just skilled in technique but also in character, making choices based on honesty and high personal values.

Integrity in Jiu-Jitsu means being honest with yourself about your strengths and weaknesses. A student who truly embodies integrity doesn’t take shortcuts, skip drills, or only train when it’s easy. They push through challenges and strive for improvement even when no one is watching. In our Bolton kids’ Jiu-Jitsu classes, we remind students that success is earned through effort, consistency, and honesty in their training.

Integrity is also about being truthful with others—training partners, coaches, and even opponents. If you tap during a roll, it means you respect your partner’s skill and acknowledge your need to improve. If you struggle with a technique, admitting it allows your instructor to help you grow. A martial artist with integrity does not make excuses but instead embraces the process of learning and self-improvement.

Ask your child:

  1. Why is honesty a key part of integrity?
  2. How can being truthful with yourself help you improve in Jiu-Jitsu?
  3. Why is it important to show integrity when training with your teammates?

At Gracie Humaitá Jiu-Jitsu Bolton, we train our students to be honest, disciplined, and respectful both on and off the mats. Join our kids' Jiu-Jitsu classes in Bolton to help your child develop strength, confidence, and integrity!
