January Week 4: GOAL SETTING
“All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.”
– Orison Swett Marden
At Gracie Humaitá Jiu-Jitsu Bolton, we’re focusing on the importance of goal setting in both Jiu-Jitsu and life. In our training, we use specific goals to push past limits and improve every day.
This week, we’re applying this concept to the mastery of a fundamental technique: the triangle choke. Achieving proficiency in this technique requires breaking it down into smaller, manageable steps. First, you must master the correct setup. The positioning of your hips, posture, and control over your opponent’s arm and head all contribute to a strong foundation. With repetition and guidance, the technique becomes second nature.
Confidence is crucial. Picture yourself setting up and finishing the triangle choke flawlessly. Believe in your ability to execute it under pressure. Then comes focus. Concentrate on your angles, adjustments, and proper execution. Lastly, like breaking a board, finishing a submission requires speed and decisiveness. Commit to your movements, and don’t hesitate when the opportunity arises.
Ask yourself:
Let’s set high goals together and work as a team to achieve them. Each roll brings us closer to the best version of ourselves.
